- Identify the projects aims and objectives - a project aim is what you want to achieve and a project objective is how you are going to achieve it
- Spend time seeking out good sources you can refer to
- Establish the feasibility of your research
- Check that you will be able to access the sources that you need, some have 18 restrictions
- Complexity - Do not underestimate how hard certain research materials are to understand
- Objectivity - Think very carefully before choosing a topic for your EP that is very close to uyou and encourages an emotive response, it can be hard to remain objective about such topics
- Word count - ensure that the title can be adequately addressed in 5000 words (1000 for artefact)

For any proposed working title you must have a sound research base with real and appropriate and reliable sources to build a strong foundation on. Once you have a sound research base which means a set of varied resources (books, websites, articles etc) - your research log evaluating sources
